Alfred C. Etter, age 77, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 with his loving family by his side.
Born and raised in Scranton, PA, Al was the son of the late Alfred and Adeline Etter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Al graduated with an Associate Degree from Penn State University and then went on to Widener University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. For over 20 years, Al was a mechanical engineer at DuPont. He also worked at Sears in Prices Corner for over 20 years.
Al was a longtime member of the Delaware Saengerbund. He enjoyed spending time at the Mid-County Senior Center, where he played pinochle. Every Friday, Al loved getting together with his special group of friends for dinner at Crossroads. In his spare time, Al loved to read and watch TV shows about the military. He was also an Atlanta Braves fan.
Al will be remembered as a good dad, as well as a people person, who was well liked by all who met him.
Al was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Mary Etter. He is survived by his daughter, Sheila K. Etter (Rick Wilcox); his grandchildren, Tiffany, Kevin and Ryan Etter, Taylor Reeder, and Jakob Wilcox; his sister, Donna Etter-Williams; his companion of 10 years, Evelyn Falkowski; many nieces and nephews; as well as another daughter.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, February 3 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-County Senior Center, 1st Regiment Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808.
