Judith Kay (Songer) McCord

Judith Kay McCord, age 77, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, with her loving family supporting her and each other through her final days.  

Judie was born in Greeley, CO, and was a proud graduate of the University of Nebraska - Go ‘Huskers! She received her Masters degree in elementary education from the University of Houston. She enjoyed a long 42 year career as a teacher, Including the last 30 at Wilson, Bayard, and Marshall elementary schools. She treated each student she taught as one of her own children. She loved everything about teaching and touched so many lives. 

She adored her family and especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. You would see Judie poolside , at dance shows, or at the pole vault pit every chance she got!  She was there to proclaim each of them the Best at what they did. Judie also enjoyed reading, music, and the companionship of her puppies. 

She is survived by her husband, Brad McCord; her children, Wendy Krieger-Sheppard (Charles “Shep”), Todd Krieger (Lisa); her grandchildren, Lindsay, Meri,  Aiden Krieger and Margaret and Owen Sheppard; her brother, Dr. Michael Songer; and her puppies, Bogart and Charlie. 

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 1:30pm and a celebration of life will commence at 2:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Suite 205, Lilburn, GA 30047.
