Catharine B. (Bauer) Frey

Catharine B. Frey, age 95, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2018, with her loving family by her side.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Catharine was the daughter of the late George and Agnes (Flynn) Bauer. She was a graduate of Cecilian Academy, as well as the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business.

In the late 1940's Catharine began her career in finance at the Wage Stabilization Board in Philadelphia, where she met her future husband. After getting married, she put her career on hold to raise her four children. In 1970, Catharine went back to work in Human Resources with Sears on Lea Blvd., where she worked for 21 years before retiring in 1991.

Catharine’s family and her faith were the center of her life. She treasured the tradition of Sunday lunches with her family, as well as her annual outing to the Brandywine Arts Festival with her daughters, Betsy and Janet. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul with a lovely sense of humor. Everyone will miss her funny one-liners with which she would zing friends and family.

Catharine was longtime parishioner of St. Helena’s Church, where she was a member of the prayer group. In her spare time, she was an avid reader of history and murder mysteries and loved doing crossword puzzles.

Catharine is survived by her children, Steven Frey (Lisa Firestine), Elizabeth “Betsy” Frey, Janet F. Brennan (Christopher) and George Frey (Lisa) and her grandchildren, Melissa (Zack), Jim, Matt, Melanie, Briana, and Matthew. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Agnes Bauer. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff of Brackenville Center for their love and care of Catharine.

Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, February 13 from 10 to 11 AM at St. Helena’s Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin promptly at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Helena’s Church.
