Betty (Bokay Lau) Dougherty

Betty Bokay Lau Dougherty passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

She was born March 2, 1957 in Kowloon, Hong Kong, China and was fostered by a new family through their emigration to the United States in the early 1960’s. She was raised in Chinatown in Manhattan, NY, where she attended school.

She had an illustrious career in the US Navy and was honorably discharged as Yeoman 3rd Class. This is where she met her husband of 31 years, Mike Dougherty. Along with their duties, they traveled Europe and have wonderful stories of history, people and food.

Betty was an avid pool player and known in her circle as the “shark” of the pool room. Her favorite pastime was the private time she spent with Mike and their furry children: Guido and Sparky.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by Mike’s brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Anna Lou Dougherty.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory can be made to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.
